Hershberger, 74, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 1973. Born in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Christian D. and Ida (Yutzy) Hershberger. He was a retired insurance agent and had owned and operated a general insurance business in Grantsville for 35 years A veteran of World War I, he attended St. John's College, was a lifelong active member of St. John's United Church of Christ and was a charter member of American Legion Post 214, Grantsville Rotary Club and the Meyersdale Area Christian Business Men's Committee. Mr. Hershberger was also a former Boy Scout leader and was a member of Garrett County (Md.) Historical Society. He served on the original planning committee for Garrett County Community College and was a member of the Grantsville Health Care Committee, American Numismatical and American Philatelic Societies and currently was serving on the board of the Garrett County Department of Social Services. Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Maxwell; two sons, Daniel of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Donald Hershberger, Bittinger, Md.; four granddaughters; and a brother Merl Hershberger, College Park, Md. Funeral service was conducted Tuesday afternoon in St. John's Church, with Rev. Lary Diehl officiating. Interment in Garrett Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, November 15, 1973 [H0899]
