Beachy and wife of Niverton, Jonas J. Tice and wife, Joel Beachy, Noah Beachy and Henry Yoder, and Sol Yoder and Joe Hershberger, who were visiting relatives in the Elk Lick and Grantsville districts, and Samuel Beachy of Oakland, Md., motored to Norfolk, Va., week before last to attend the funeral of Simon D. Hershberger who died Jan. 16th at his home near Norfolk. Mr. Hershberger was a son of the late Daniel D. Hershberger and was born and grew to manhood in Elk Lick Township. He was aged 54 years and 9 days at the time of his death. His parents and only brother, the late Christian D. Hershberger, of Grantsville, Md., preceded him to the grave. His wife, who was a daughter of Daniel S. Beachy, passed away about eight years ago. He is survived by one son and one daughter. He was a beloved member of the Amish Mennonite brotherhood and was highly respected and loved by all who knew him. His funeral at the Amish church near Kempsville, Va., was largely attended. The funeral sermons were preached by C. J. Swartzentruber and Levi Bontrager. Meyersdale Republican, January 30, 1930
