Born April 8, 1923, in Meyersdale, he was the son of the late Lulu and John Hickenbottom. He was also preceded in death by a brother Eugene. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Dolores Gillespie Hickenbottom; three children: William John Hickenbottom and wife Elizabeth of Acme; Shirley Benedict and husband John of Cheswick; Russell Hickenbottom and wife Patricia of Struthers, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Chad Mason; Jason, Carla and Holly Hickenbottom; Jeannie and John Marco; Debbie Gregg and Beverly Mishler; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was retired from Volkswagen of New Stanton Plant as a supervisor. He also worked as a van driver for Westmoreland Hospital and was a volunteer there, including running menus throughout the facility for a courtesy and started morning coffee for several nursing units. He belonged to the Alwine Community Center and the Meyersdale Moose Lodge. He previously lived in Austintown, Ohio, where he was a Master Plumber and worked at the Lordstown GM Plant. He was active with Boy Scouts Troop 84 as an Assistant Scout Master in the 1960's. He served in the Army during WWII serving in the European Theatre receiving five Bronze Stars, with the 141st Infantry. He received the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct Medal and the Distinguished Unit Badge. As per Frank's wishes there was no public viewing or calling hours. There will be a private memorial for family and friends at a later date. 05/27/2004 New Republic
