Higgs, 60, Blandon, passed away Jan. 19, 2007, at 1:37 a.m. in his residence after battling cancer. Born in Somerset, the son of Marie (Kirkwood) Higgs, Wyomissing, and the late Raymond H. Higgs. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Lober) Higgs. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Matthew R. Higgs, Reading and one daughter, Theresa M. Higgs, Boston, Mass., and one sister, Lynne (Higgs) Trevett, Columbia, S.C. Larry is a 1964 graduate of Somerset High School. He received his BS in secondary education in biology and earth science from Penn State University in 1968. He received his MBA from Eastern University, Philadelphia in 1998. He was a professional scouter with the Hawk Mountain Council, Reading, for five years. Larry was the co-owner of Northside Company, West Reading, for five years, and the owner of Higgs Heating and Air Conditioning, Reading, for nine years. He later became a salesman for UGI in 2004 until he became ill. Larry taught heating and air conditioning night classes at Reading Area Community College and Northampton Community College. Larry was an Air Force veteran. He was a pilot for five years and flew C-130's during the Vietnam era. He served as a board member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Berks County, and had a Little Brother for seven years. Larry was the first president of St. Joseph's Home School Association in Reading. Larry was the program chairman for Living Spirit U.M.C., Exeter Township; he was also president of the administrative board of Faith U.M.C., Reading, for several years. Larry was continually dedicated to Boy Scouting and earned his 50 year pin in 2004. He served in many positions including Scout Master of Troops 359 and 305, Reading, for 12 years, and committee chairman for Cub Scout Pack 305 for three years. He was also a committee chairman for Girl Scout Troop 774, Reading, for five years. He was a T-ball coach for the Angels Team in the Rising Sun Athletic Association for four years. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Fleetwood Bible Church, 2847 Moselem Springs Road. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Larry R.
