Born July 7, 1921 at Boynton, she was the daughter of the late Stanford and Elizabeth (Holler) Hillegas. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gale "Mike" Hillegas and one sister Doris Will. She is survived by one sister, Tolva Gnagey, Salisbury; two nephews; Preston Gnagey, Tucson, Ariz., Terry Hillegas, Salisbury; four nieces, Margie Goetz, Salisbury, Glenda Westcoat, Greensburg, Elizabeth Cook, Salisbury, Kathy Aumiller, Etters, Pa. Ms. Hillegas was a teacher at Bethany Christian School. She was a graduate of Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky. She taught in Salisbury and Greenville Townships, and El Paso, Texas for short periods of time. Ms. Hillegas dedicated her life as a Christian Missionary teacher, teaching at Bethany Orphanage, this later becoming Bethany Christian School for 50 years. She was awarded teacher of the year for Wolfe County three years ago. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Hwy., Salisbury, Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home, Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ruth S. Kershner and Rev. Paul L. Westcoat officiating. Interment will be in the Salisbury Cemetery. Contributions may be directed to Bethany Christian School.
