Born June 11, 1923, in Boynton, Pa., he was a son of the late Stanford and Elizabeth (Holler) Hillegas. Also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Will. Survived by his wife, Jane (Gundrum) Hillegas, whom he married Aug. 30, 1952; a son, Terry and wife, the former Dawn Fike, Salisbury; a daughter, Kathy Aumiller and husband, Mike, Etters, Pa.; 2 sisters, Tolva Gnagey, Salisbury, Betty Hillegas, Bethany, Ky., 4 "special" grandchildren, Christine Aumiller, Anthony, Russell and Mariah Hillegas. Member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Salisbury, where at one time he served as choir director, deacon, elder and Consistory president. U.S. Army veteran of Korean Conflict, member of Salisbury American Legion, Post 459. Member of Salisbury Lions Club for 31 years, served as past president and past secretary. Member of Tub Mill Arts and was an avid lover of music. Played shortstop for the Salisbury Cardinals when the team won the Southern Somerset County baseball championship in 1948. Retired maintenance man for Somerset State Hospital, has also been employed as a housepainter. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, Md., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday one hour before the service at the church. Services will be conducted on at 11 a.m., Tuesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, Salisbury, with the Rev. Raymond Brown officiating. Interment Salisbury Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by Salisbury veterans organizations. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. John's Church Building Fund, Box 33, Salisbury, Pa., 15558.
