Hillegas, 95, of Lancaster, died Sept. 13, 2002 at Community Hospital of Lancaster, after a long illness. Born in Berlin, she is the daughter of the late William R. and Julia Lease Long. She was preceded in death by a son, Leon; two sisters, Lillian L. and Aldine Long and three brothers, Grafton, Roy and Kenneth Long. She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Jacob L. Hillegas; a son, Dr. Gordon L., married to Sally A. Hillegas of Conestoga; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was a 1925 graduate of Berlin High School and also attended Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. She was a salesperson for Hager's and Watt & Shand department stores for 25 years, retiring in 1978. She was active with Girl Scouts of America, a former member of Jay H. Clark Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Westgate Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school and was past president of the Women's Guild at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, where she was a former member. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Westgate Baptist Church, 2235 Old Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, with the Rev. Leonard K. Lewis Officiating. Private interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service. Memorials in her name may be given to Westgate Baptist Church.
