Hillegas, 88, of 122 Beachy Ave., Salisbury, died Jan. 8, 1994, at Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice, Cumberland, Md. Born Aug. 22, 1905, in Hyndman, a daughter of the late Otis and Nettis (Blackburn) Harclerode. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marcus T. Hillegas, Aug. 21, 1978; a son, James Michael; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann; a grandson, John Scott Lentz; a brother, Cyrus Bowers, and 2 sisters, Grace Harclerode and Evelyn Miller. She was a retired schoolteacher with 26 years of service in the Hyndman and Salisbury-Elk Lick school districts. Mrs. Hillegas was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Salisbury; former school director in Salisbury-Elk Lick School District, member of Somerset County Retired Teachers Association; Queen Esther Bible Class, Boynton, Pa., and Methodist Women in Meyersdale. Survivors include a son, Jack Hillegas, and wife, Shelva, Salisbury; 2 daughters, Marla Reichenbecher and husband, Gary, McHenry, Md., and Carolyn Miller and husband, Arthur, Phoenix, Ariz.; also 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Friends were received Sunday evening at Newman Funeral Home, Salisbury, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Raymond Brown and the Rev. David Fetter officiating.
