He was born March 5, 1956, in Berlin, the son of the late Ralph and Ruth Hillegas. Survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy Thom Hillegas and his four children, Zachary and Michaela, who are students at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, Kelsey, who attends Bridgeport High School, and Brady, who is a fourth-grader at Johnson Elementary. Also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Susan Hillegas of Englewood, Colo.; a stepmother, Ruth Jury Hillegas of Berlin; his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Joan Thom of Cumberland, Md.; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Janice Thom of Cumberland, Md.; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Ken McKenzie, Cumberland, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. Tom was employed as a project manager for March-Westin Company in Morgantown. He was a 1974 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, an active member with the Republican Party, and a regular contributor to the Clarksburg Mission. He also worked for more than 30 years as a member of the Blue Knob Ski Patrol. Tom was a devoted family man who enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with friends and family at Oral Lake. Friends will be received at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, W.Va., from 12 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, with the Rev. Steven E. Dorsey presiding. The interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, W.Va.
