Born Dec. 14, 1926, in Berlin, a son of George A. and Mary (Suder) Hillegass. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Evelyn Hartman, and a twin brother, Earl S. Hillegass. Survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Evelyn Miller; children, Gerald M., married to the former Gloria Keim, Danville, Ky.; Gloria M. Wright, married to Earl; Gary M. Hillegass; Garland M. Hillegass; and Gaye M. Leister, married to Ed, all of Berlin; grandchildren, Lindy Neal and husband, Jake, Cincinnati; Angela Hillegass, Cincinnati; Melanie Mayse and husband, Ryan, Johnstown; Wesley Wright; Derek, Rachael and Amanda Leister, all of Berlin. Harry was a lifelong self- employed dairy farmer, growing alfalfa and corn crops. He graduated from Berlin Brothersvalley High School in 1944. In 1947, he was one of the first from Somerset County to receive an American Farmer Degree. He had been a member and delegate of many agricultural organizations, such as Pa. Farm Bureau, Milk Marketing, Agway, and was a 4-H leader. Member of Valley Senior Extension Club and the IOOF Lodge 461 for which he received a 50-year pin. He was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin, where he was a former Sunday school superintendent and a deacon. Family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where a service will be held 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Jay Shaffer officiating. Interment Berlin IOOF Cemetery.
