Himes, 83, a resident of Manor Care Nursing Home, Camp Hill, and formerly of Mercersburg, died Jan. 14 in the nursing home. He had resided in the home since 1998. Born Jan. 23, 1917, in Rockwood, he was a son of the late George W. and Sadie Eiford Himes. He was also preceded in death by a sister. Paul was a graduate of Meyersdale High School. He was also a graduate of the former York Business School of York. Upon moving to Mercersburg, he was employed at the Mercersburg Academy and later at the former Farmer's Bank. For 27 years he was employed at the Mercersburg Post Office as a rural letter carrier, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Mercersburg, where he was a former trustee. He was also a member of Harry Lackhove American Legion Post #517 of Mercersburg. He was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association, was a former Tuscarora School Board member, and participated in the local Boy Scout troop. Paul was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He is survived by his wife, Marian Hoch Himes, a daughter, Ann Crawford of Mechanicsburg; a son David M. Himes of Stowe, Pa.; three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; and a brother, Roy Himes of Pittsfield, Mass. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 (today), at the Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with the Rev. Wayne A. Warren officiating.
