Hine, 84, of Somerset died May 9, 2003 at Patriot Manor. Born May 2, 1919 in Gelatt, Pa. (Susquehanna County) he is the son of the late Ben and Jane (Avery) Hine. Also preceded in death by son, Edward Hine. Survived by wife of 61 years Dorothy (Smiley) Hine, and daughter, Cathie* Trent of Greensburg. Grandchildren Allen E. Trent and wife, the former Cathy McCord, Jeannette; Carol J. Trent of Greensburg, Ms. Kimberly Trent and Richard D. Marto Jr., of Turtle Creek; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Allen J. "AJ" and Zachariah Trent and Grace and Richard E. Marto; step-grandchildren, Melissa and David DeSimone, and step-great-grandson Raymond DeSimone. Active member of Calvary United Methodist Church and its organizations for over 50 years. A 1939 graduate of Penn State University and was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association. He was a teacher of Vocational Agriculture for 39 years, most of those years at Somerset Area High School and was an ardent member and adviser of the FFA. He was also a life member of NEA and an active member for the Somerset Lions Club for over 50 years. Executive Secretary of Pennsylvania Association of Ag-Ed Teachers for a number of years. For over four years, he served his country in World War II and was taken prisoner of war in the Battle of the Bulge. Friends received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home. A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond Lyon officiating. Interment in Husband Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 239 W. Church St., Somerset, Pa. 15501. There will be viewing at the church from 12:30 until time of service on Monday.
