Hittie, 76, of North Constitution Avenue, New Freedom, York County, died Feb. 16, 1980 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Charles Laughman, Red Lion, Pa. He was the husband of Ina G. (Bittner) Hittie. Mr. Hittie was born in Northhampton [sic] Township, Somerset County, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Hartge) Hittie. He farmed and was a sawyer all of his life in Somerset County until moving to new Freedom in 1954. He worked as a carpenter in the New Freedom area until the time of his passing. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and Rose Fire Company, both of New Freedom. He is survived by his wife, eight children: Robert C. Hittie, New Freedom; Mrs. Annabelle Nace, New Freedom; Lester Hittie, Red Lion, Pa.; Mrs. Geraldine Tipton, Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Helen Laughman, Red Lion, Pa.; Mrs. Gladysmae Keeney, York, Pa.; Mrs. Gayle Collier, Manchester, Pa.; and David Hittie, Carlisle, Pa. Also 21 grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters, Charles Hittie, Pennsauken, New Jersey; John Hittie, Florida; Mrs. Nora Ackerman, Glencoe, Pa.; and Mrs. Marie Summy, Mt. Pleasant, Pa. Funeral services were conducted at St. John Lutheran Church, New Freedom, Pa. Interment, New Freedom Cemetery. Arrangements by J. J. Hartenstein Mortuary.
