Hoffman, 84, of West Patriot St., Somerset, died Nov. 30, 1980, at his residence. Born Aug. 12, 1896, in Bangor, Pa., son of the late John N. and Mary (Lehr) Hoffman. Also preceded in death by first wife, the former Ruth Varner, a granddaughter, and a sister. Survived by his second wife, the former Katherine Walter; and these children: Jane, wife of Wallace L. Friedline, and Sally, wife of James Spangler, both of Somerset; also four grandchildren. Brother of Raymond of Washington, D.C. Member of Grace United Methodist Church; American Legion Post 181 and past commander; Somerset Chamber of Commerce and past president; Pittsburgh Athletic Club; Somerset Rotary Club; Somerset Country Club. A graduate and former coach of Juniata College; former manager of Somerset Lumber Co.; retired president of Somerset Door and Column Co.; former chairman of the board of Somerset branch of the U.S. National Bank; member of the House of Representatives of the 79th Congress; veteran of World War I; and presently was a partner of Service Oil Company, Somerset. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home, where services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Theodore Cole officiating. Interment, Husband Cemetery. Family requests that memorials be made to the Juniata College Alumni Association, Huntingdon, Pa.; or to the Somerset Community Hospital.
