Born June 3, 1910, in Lincoln Township, son of the late Wilson Henry and Mayme Catherine (Gardner) Hoffman. Preceded in death by daughter, Marion Beistel; and grandson, Jeffrey; also two sisters: Blanche Hershberger and Sara Jane Hoffman; three brothers: Nelson, Ray and Paul. Survived by his wife, the former Ruth Swank, to whom he was married for 56 years; and these children: Mrs. Clair (Mae Jean) Coley, Chardon, Ohio; George W., Somerset RD 3; Clark Jr., Canton, Ohio; William R., Sipesville; Mrs. Judy Stanton, Mrs. Joan Miller and Ms. Cheryl Shaulis, all of Pittsburgh; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Brother of Mrs. Vida Heiple, Saltsburg; Mrs. Marie Kuhlman, Avonmore; Mrs. Ethel Saylor, Johnstown; Mrs. Robert (Ruby) Metzgar, Friedens RD 1; Floyd J., Silver City, N.M. Retired farmer and coal miner, and former employee of Somerset State Hospital. Member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Edie, and Sipesville Volunteer Fire Co. Friends received 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald E. Krestar officiating. Interment, Sipesville Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
