Hoffman, 82, of 22 Lakeview Drive, Gettysburg, died on April 13, 1996, at Hershey Medical Center. Born Aug. 11, 1913, in Gettysburg. Daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Joseph B. and Rena (Lindner) Baker. Rev. Dr. Joseph Baker was the former pastor and choir director of St. Jame's [sic] Lutheran Church and later St. Matthew's of Gettysburg Presbyterian Church at the time of her death. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bucknell University and later did graduate work at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Member of Kappa Delta sorority and Kappa Kappa Gamma education fraternity. She began her career in teaching at William Penn Sr. High School, teaching English. She later taught ninth grade English for many years at Gettysburg Jr. High School and was head of the English Department for 10 years. Her membership included: Friends of the Library, the Gettysburg YWCA, the Women's League of Gettysburg college. Served as a volunteer for the American Heart Association, UNICEF, and Meals on Wheels. Her husband, the late F. Stanley Hoffman, former treasurer of Gettysburg College, died in 1982. Surviving are two sons: Joseph M. Hoffman of Minneapolis, Minn., and David J. Hoffman of Gettysburg; two daughters: Judith L. Cryder of Marysville and Amy H. Deitch of Gettysburg; one sister, Clara Baker Forgie of Camp Hill; 14 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services at 1:30 p.m. April 21 at the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church with her pastor, the Rev. Daniel T. Hans officiating. Interment, Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends after the services on Sunday at their home, 22 Lakeview Drive, Gettysburg. Funeral arrangements handled by the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg.
