Hoffman, 70, Berlin, died Jan. 14, 2007, at home. Born April 21, 1936, in Brothersvalley Township, a son of Harrison H. and Edna (Saylor) Hoffman. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Emerson, Jay, Robert, Donald and Harold; and sister, Bernice Holt. Survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Patricia McKenzie; children, Rick L. Hoffman and girlfriend, Sandy O'Toole, Berlin; Cathi, married to William Berkey, Harrisburg; Nancy Engbert, Berlin; Susan, married to Jesse Speicher, Berlin; Christine, married to Dennis Pritts, Somerset; Connie, married to Paul Douglas Simmons, Johnstown; and Julie, married to Gary Collins, Garrett; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also survived by a sister, Phyllis Leister, Fairhope; two brothers, Wayne Hoffman and wife, Ellie, Mercerville, N.J.; and Carl Hoffman and wife Carol, Lakeland, Fla.; sisters-in - law, Lois, Joan, and Rae Hoffman; a brother-in-law, Nathan Holt; and a very good friend, Peggy Hoffman. A 1955 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School. Retired custodian for the Berlin Brothersvalley schools. Member of Saint Gregory's Catholic Church, Macdonaldton and a member of the Hillcrest Grange. He was a real sports enthusiast and enjoyed horses. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Saint Gregory's Catholic Church, Macdonaldton. The Rev. James Dugan officiating. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his grandson, Heath Berkey's Leukemia Fund, c/o the First National bank, Berlin, PA 15530 or to "In Touch" Hospice 223 S.
