Born July 8, 1925 in Bill Town, Jenner Township, a son of Earl E. and Binnie Grace (Saylor) Hoffman. Preceded in death by parents, brothers; Ernest and J. Richard Hoffman; and sister, Wilma Miller. Also preceded and formerly married to Vera Jane Tedrow, who died in 1991. Survived by children; Mrs. Jeffrey (Laurel) Harris of Dover, Del.; William C. Hoffman, Somerset; grand-children; William C. Hoffman II, Mrs. George (Melissa) Santiago and great-grandson, Nicklaus Friedline. Also survived by sister, Mrs. Francis Shaulis, Acosta and brother, Kenneth S. Hoffman, Jennerstown, and a special friend, Mildred Denner, Shanksville. Harry was draft-ed when he was in senior high school, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran of the 29th Infantry, and in the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach. He was awarded a battlefield commission of Staff Sergeant, wounded multiple times in battle, his military honors included three purple hearts, a Silver and Bronze Star with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He was also an avid aviation enthusiast and pilot. He worked as a truck driver for Wilson Freight Co., and Ludy Trucking retiring in 1983 with 32 years of service. Also a member of Christ Casebeer Lutheran Church and VFW Post 554. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset and one hour prior to the service at the church, which will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Casebeer Lutheran Church, Somerset with the Rev. Dennis L. Doebler officiating. Interment at Casebeer Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Casebeer Lutheran Church, 10377 Somerset Pike, Somerset, PA 15501.
