Hoffman, 68, of Rockwood RD 1, died May 7, 1987, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born April 11, 1919, in Scalp Level, son of Sylvester and Bertha (Shaffer) Hoffman. Preceded in death by parents; first wife Dorothy; brothers Spencer and Herbert; sister Mary Blough and infant sister. Survived by wife, the former Sarah Jane Huston Lilja; and these children: Gary, married to Marsha Womack, Colonial Heights, Va.; Jan R., married to Linda Sadlon, and Carol, both of Stoystown RD 3; Arla of Winter Haven, Fla.; stepchildren: Rebecca Lilja, Rockwood; Mrs. Donald (Martha) Johnson of Bland Ford, Mass.; and Sara Lilja of Gettysburg; and four grandchildren. Brother of Emerson, Scalp Level; Ruby Estep, Somerset; Myralene Van Dyke, Michigan; Merle of Hagerstown, Md.; Gerald, Cloyd and Harold, all of Windber. Founder and former owner of Hoffman Nursery., Stoystown RD 3, for 30 years. Member of Geiger Church of the Brethren, where he served as board chairman and Sunday school teacher. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and until noon Sunday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Geiger Church of the Brethren, the Rev. Gerald E. Deffenbaugh and the Rev. Gregory R. Pile officiating. Interment, Berkey Cemetery. No viewing at the church.
