Hoffman, 70, 227 Allegheny St., Boswell, died Oct. 22, 1985, at home. Born Aug. 16, 1915, in Boswell, son of L. Graham and Bertha (Hummel) Hoffman. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Mary Rachel Volk. Survived by widow, former Madelyn Griffith; three children: Joseph G., married to former Mary Ann Zanoni, Boswell; Pamela J., wife of William Gavel, Acosta; and Nancy L., wife of Roger Stern, Boswell; nine grandchildren: Chris, Jeff and Joette Hoffman; Tim and Amy Gavel and Gretchen, Matthew, Joshua and Daniel Stern. Brother of Sarah V. Hoffman, Boswell. Life-long active member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Boswell. Long-time member and past officer of Boswell Lions Club; Boswell Post No. 461, American Legion; and Boswell Volunteer Fire Department. Also member of Local, State, and National Funeral Directors Association for many years. Army veteran of World War II. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Walter L. Hafer, Jr. Interment, Lutheran Cemetery, Jennerstown. Memorial contributions to St. Andrew's Church will be appreciated. Arrangements by Marlin Meek Family, Windber.
