Born Aug. 29, 1923, in Brothersvalley Township, a son of Elmer Elias and Jennie (Fisher) Hoffman. Preceded in death by parents; infant daughter; son, John Hoffman; brothers, Elbert, Harrison, Ralph, Elmer, Clarence, Eugene and Cleo Hoffman; sisters, Marian Walker, Leora Kelly and Rosie Ash. Survived by wife, the former Verna Mae Baer to whom he was married 39 years; children, Kenneth Hoffman and wife, Martha, Simpsonville, S.C.; Mrs. Larry (Patty) Albertson, West Union, S.C.; Ronald Hoffman and wife, Deborah, Fountain Inn, S.C.; Frederick Hoffman and wife, Diane, Grovetown, Ga.; Mrs. Randy (Peggy Jean) Miller, Jack E. Evans, Mrs. (Connie) Sanner, Ronald L. Evans, Mrs. James (Barbara) Barclay, Randy J. Evans, all of Somerset; 36 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Brother of Perry Hoffman, married to the former Dorothy Weyand, Rockwood; Paul Hoffman, married to the former Julia Weiss, Bakersville; Mrs. Donald (Ruby) Miller, Somerset; Mrs. Don (Hazel) Weighley, Somerset; and Roger Hoffman and wife, Diane, Palmyra. Member of Abundant Life Christian Center. Had worked as a miner, then a custodian for Somerset High School retiring in 1986 with 25 years of service. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Samuel Coughenour officiating.
