All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ MATILDA JANE HOFFMAN Mrs. Charles Hoffman died at her home in Elk Lick Township about a half-mile east of Salisbury, Nov. 8, aged 78 years, 6 months and 18 days. Her death was caused by apoplexy. Her maiden name was Matilda Jane Meese, a daughter of Daniel and Margaret Baer Meese. She was born April 20, 1864. She is survived by her husband and these children: Mary, wife of Leo Derry, Meyersdale; Florence, wife of George Schultz, Pittsburgh; Freda, wife of E. P. Broderick, Berlin; Ernest and Charles Hoffman, Jr., both of Salisbury. She is also survived by two brothers, Chauncey Meese of Salisbury and Milton Meese of Akron, Ohio, and by eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two children preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted at the family home, Wednesday, at 2:30 p.m., by her pastor, Rev. Ira S. Monn, of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Salisbury. Interment was in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery, under the direction of Stanley M. Thomas, local mortician. Mrs. Hoffman was a faithful member of her church, and by her death the community in which so much of her life was spent, has lost a highly esteemed citizen, one loved and respected for her many noble traits of character.
