Hoffman, 74, of Berlin, died July 12, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Aug. 10, 1926 in Brothersvalley Township, he was the son of Harrison and Edna (Saylor) Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emerson, Jay, and Donald; and a sister Bernice. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rae (Musser) Hoffman; sons, Robert A., married to the former Teresa Salamando, Ebensburg; Tom L., married to the former Kathleen Walker, Berlin; grandchildren, Robert J., Monica, Stephanie, and Lee; a sister, Phyllis Leister, Fairhope; and brothers, Carl, Lakeland, Fla.; Wayne, New Jersey; Harold and George, both of Berlin. He was a graduate of Berlin High School, class of 1945, and also a graduate of Ashland University and Ashland Theological Seminary of Ashland, Ohio. He had served as pastor for 45 years in Ohio, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Berlin Brethren Church, and the Berlin Historical Society. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, and also from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at the Berlin Brethren Church, with Rev. Owen H. Preston and Rev. William Yoder officiating. Interment, Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
