Hoffman, 88, 307 Allegheny St., Boswell, died Oct. 23, 1996, in the Extended Care Unit of Somerset Hospital. Born June 20, 1908, in Jenner Cross Roads, daughter of L. Graham and Bertha (Hummel) Hoffman. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Mary Rachel Volk, 1968; brother, Joseph H. Hoffman, 1985; brother-in-law, Karl R. Volk Sr., 1943; and nephews, Richard Volk and Karl R. "Bob" Volk Jr. Loving aunt of the Rev. David G. Volk, married to Carolyn Baer, Allentown; Joseph G. Hoffman, married to Mary Ann Zanoni, Boswell; Pamela J. (Hoffman), wife of William Gavel, Acosta; and Nancy L. (Hoffman), wife of Roger Stern, Boswell. Also survived by sister-in-law, Madelyn (Griffith) Hoffman, Boswell; numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Lifelong, faithful member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boswell, where she was organist, choir director and Sunday school teacher for many years. Also member of the Knotty Ladies of the church, Pennsylvania and Somerset County Associations of School Retirees, Monday Bridge Club and the Boswell Area Historical Society. Former elementary schoolteacher with 46 years of service in the Jenner-Boswell area. God's blessings of health, travel, friends, family, church and home were continued in her retirement. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and until 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell. Visitation also from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Church, the Rev. John K. Timm and the Rev. David G. Volk officiating. Interment, Jenner Cross Roads, Cemetery. No viewing at the church. Memorials may be sent to Sarah's church of the "In Touch" Hospice, 651 South Center Ave., Somerset. The special care given Aunt Sarah by so many is deeply appreciated.
