Howard Hoffmeyer, 83, Akron, Ohio, died Nov. 19, in St. Thomas Hospital, Akron, after a 12-day illness. He was born in Somerset County and went to Akron in 1908. A daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Sassaman, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Mabel, a daughter, Mrs. Ruth [Fiore?], Danville, Va.; a son, Kenneth Hoffmeyer, Claremont, Cal.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a brother of Mary and Edith Hoffmeyer, Akron; Mrs. Fannie O'Dell, Augusta, Ga.; Frank, Meyersdale; and Robert, Medina, Ohio. The first Akron representative for Motorists Mutual Insurance Co., he retired in 1961. A member of Edwin Palmer Lodge No. 718, F&AM, the Akron 50-year club, Akron camp of Modern Woodmen of America, he also belonged to Grace United Church of Christ, its consistory and was a Sunday school teacher there. Funeral service was held in Grace United Church of Christ, Akron, Nov. 22, with Rev. Paul B. Kiewit officiating. Interment was made in Rose Hill Burial Park.
