Born March 1, 1910, in (Sand Patch) Meyersdale. A daughter of the late Howard and Estella (Beal) Shockey. Also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Samuel E. Hoke; her son, Samuel E. Hoke II; her daughter, Mary Estelle Brant, and brothers: James and Leo Shockey. Surviving are four grandchildren: Samuel E. Hoke III, Michael and Chris Bengivengo, and Kimberly McGee. Five great-grandchildren: Christopher Aaron Bengivengo, Richard, Matthew, Robert and Andrew McGee; also a number of nieces and nephews. Althea lived a very active life prior to her admission to Meyersdale Manor in January 1988. While in Meadville, Pa., where she and her family resided many years ago, she served as regent of the local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was very proud of her heritage and was the family historian. After her husband's death, she served as head housemother and acting dean of women at Bloomsburg State College for 15 years. She returned to Meyersdale to be a companion and caregiver to two aunts, Mrs. George Benford and Mrs. John Bittner, until their deaths. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Meyersdale; Trinity Chapter 138, O.E.S., and a faithful patron of many charitable organizations. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, with Pastor Randall Marburger officiating. Friends will be received from noon until time of service.
