On Tuesday morning he was seized with cramps and was rushed to the hospital where he underwent an operation for appendicitis on February 18. For several days following the operation his condition appeared good, but peritonitis set in which resulted in his death ten days later. He was born on Oct. 15, 1918, at Harnedsville, while his father was serving with the A.E.F. in France. He was 12 years, 4 months and 12 days old. He is survived by his father, mother, one sister, Beulah, aged 10 years, and one brother, Jay Dee, aged 4 years. He is also survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Smith, Mrs. Mary J. Holliday and his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Augustine, of Harnedsville. He also had a number of other relatives and a host of friends who, with his bereaved parents, mourn his loss. Emmert was a bright, intelligent, kind-hearted boy, always willing to do whatever he was called upon to do. He was a pupil in the Dumas school and had not missed a day this term. He was well liked by both teacher and pupils. He was a member of the United Evangelical Sunday School and had not missed a Sunday for nearly eight months. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 1, in the United Evangelical Church at Harnedsville, by Rev. W. M. Minerd of Rockwood. E. E. McDonald, A. T. Groff, Mrs. Therza Constance and Mrs. Theo Marquart sang several beautiful selections accompanied by Mrs. Homer Rush. The floral tributes were beautiful. The pall-bearers were Charles and Melvin Gillenberger, George and Thomas Holt, Homer Keslar and Herbert Smith, all members of the Sunday school. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Retta Augustine, Mrs. Fred Rutter, Miss Ruth Augustine and Dick Stern of Uniontown. Undertaker Charles B. Humbert had charge of the funeral arrangements. Interment in Silbaugh Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, March 12, 1931
