Hoover, 91, Hutchinson, went to be with the Lord Jan. 31, 1998, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Audrey Hoover. Born Feb. 7, 1906 in Garrett, a son of Elijah and Mary (Cook) Hoover. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, Dorothy (Sterner) Hoover in 1947; a grandson, Robert Dean Hoover in 1973; 2 sisters, Paul Mitchell and Ester Pletcher; and a stepson, Edward Custer. Survived by wife of 49 years, Isabelle (Reed) Custer Hoover; son, Robert, married to Audrey; stepdaughter, Laverne Wright of Donegal; stepdaughter-in-law, Charlotte Custer of Lincoln, Neb.; brothers, Charles of Somerset and Paul R. Hoover of Garrett; sister, Florence Kelly of Garrett; 2 grandchildren, Mrs. Terry (Nadene S.) Decker of North Carolina and Timothy B., and his wife, Becky Hoover, of Greensburg; 4 great-grandchildren, Malia, Jessica, Tarin and Lakin, all of North Carolina; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was a coal miner, having first worked with the Charles Merril Coal Co., then the Westmoreland Coal Co. He also was employed by the Lincoln Coach Lines, North Huntingdon. A lifetime member of the United Mine Workers of America with over 50 years of service. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph W. Nickels Funeral Home Inc., Herminie, where service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Pastor William R. Hoffman, officiating.
