Mr. Hoover had been suffering from a heart condition for about six years, but had not been confined to his bed until a few weeks ago. During the past week he had not been able to take any nourishment and was unable to speak to those in attendance. Mr. Hoover was aged 80 years, 11 months and 13 days. He was born near Jennings, March 4, 1859, a son of the late Carlyle and Rosanna Hoover. He spent his early life there and for about twenty years owned and operated a store at Jennings. He disposed of this however in 1925 and built his present home where he engaged in farming. He married Miss Eliza Bowers about forty-nine years ago. In spite of his advanced years Mr. Hoover remained mentally active and alert. He was always a man of good business judgment and foresight and realizing his declining health he had not only had his own monument erected on the family lot in the Grantsville Cemetery, but had also selected his casket and vault. He had been a member of the Methodist Church here since early childhood. Surviving, in addition to his widow, are four children, namely, Lulu B. (Mrs. Edward) Swauger, Jennings, Heiskell C. Hoover, Malcroft, Pa., Grace F. (Mrs. Roy) Wilburn and Russell V. Hoover, Grantsville. He also leaves one brother, Norman Hoover, and one sister, Miss Annie Hoover, both of Jennings, twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 20, at 2 o'clock, at the Grantsville Methodist Church, with Rev. D. R. Carder, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were William Edgar, Stewart Rodamer, A. Claude Stanton, Byron H. Bender, Jacob R. Gnagey and Olen H. Yoder. Meyersdale Republican, February 22, 1940
