His death was caused by paralysis. He had not been in good health for several months, but was taken seriously ill several days before his death. He was aged 79 years & 9 months. Mr. Hoover was well known & his gallant service in the Civil War had earned him many friends. "Daddy," as he was called by everybody, was a kind & loving man & the public, as well as Mrs. Hoover & family, will sadly miss the gallant old gentleman. The funeral will be held Thursday, the services being conducted by Rev. J.S. Tholan, pastor of the Lutheran church. Meyersdale Republican, Jan. 22, 1925 page 2
