William Hoover, who was killed in action on Leyte Island in the Phillipines, will arrive in Rockwood Saturday, July 16. He is the son of Mary E. Hoover, of Garrett RD 1. His father was a veteran of World War I and died as a result of being gassed. Besides his mother, Pfc. Hoover is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Charles Fisher and Mrs. Charles Weyand, both of Garrett RD., and one brother, Troy Hoover of Erie. The body will be held at the Mills and Mickey Funeral Home, Rockwood, until Sunday, July 17. Friends and relatives will gather in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery Sunday afternoon, where military rites will be held at 2 o'clock. Meyersdale Republican, July 14, 1949
