He was born November 10, 1922 in Grantsville, MD, son of the late John M. and Wyoma (Durst) Horchler. He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney W. Horchler, a Vietnam Veteran who died in 1989 and a brother, Randall Horchler. He is survived by his widow of 59 years Florence K. (Beal) and a daughter, Krystal Horchler, Somerset; grandchildren: Wayne M. Horchler, Texas; Kim Lea Jenkins, LaVale, MD; Mark W. Plansinis, Dearborn Heights, MI; and Douglas Dean Plansinis, US Navy, FL; and eight great grandchildren. A brother of: Alice Barnett, Vinemont, AL; and Melvin Dale Horchler, Birmingham, AL.
