HORNBAKE June 21, 1913- March 22, 2000 Mabel L. Hornbake, 86, of Ebensburg, died March 22, 2000, at Conemaugh Hospital, Johnstown. Born June 21, 1913, in New York County, she was the daughter of Alexander and Mary Catherine (Lange) Stephens. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, David Edwin; four children and a brother, Alexander. She is survived by these children: Joanne St. Pierre, Pittsburgh; and David E. Hornbake, Jr., Portage; the following grandchildren: Jon Paul St. Pierre, David M. Hornbake, Daniel Hornbake and Cindy L. Coleman; and nine great-grandchildren. She was a sister of Lillian Shumaker, Katherine Beal and Paul Stephens of Meyersdale; and Gloria Ritchey, Everett. She was a graduate of Butler High School, California University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was a retired teacher and counselor with IU-08, Portage; and was a member of the PSEA, Historical Society of Cambria County, and the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel of Loretto. She was a woman who touched many lives. Friends were received March 23 and 24 at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where a vigil wake service was held March 24. Services were held March 25 at St. Michael the Archangel, Loretto, with the Rev. Michael Becker officiating. Interment, Sts. Philip & James Cemetery, Meyersdale.
