She was born March 25, 1916, in Mount Pleasant Township. A daughter of the late Alvie Brooks and Nina Belle Kimmel Horner. She was a graduate of the former Hurst High School and in her early years she was employed by the P.O. Peterson Writing System of Greensburg and later she retired as a secretary for the Mount Pleasant Free Public Library. She was a member of the Frick Hospital Aid Society, member of the former Mount Pleasant Music club and member of the Women's Club of Mount Pleasant. She was a life long member of the Mount Joy Church of the Brethren, where she was church organist for many years and was a Sunday School teacher for 61 years. She was also active in many other church activities and organizations. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and in addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother, I.H. (Harvey) Horner in 1943. She is survived by several cousins and many dear friends. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 406 E. Washington St., Mount Pleasant, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Robert Bloom and Rev. Durward Hays officiating. Interment, Mount Joy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Mount Pleasant Free Public Library. Daily American, January 25, 1996 [H1585]
