A loving husband, father and grandfather, Gene was born August 27, 1929, in Berlin, a son of George and Flora (Kendall) Horning. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Orphia (Bush) Horning, whom he married April 24, 1954, in Ellerslie, Md.; also survived by his daughters, Sandra Horning, Springs; Karen Lepore and husband, Chris, New Castle; his sons, Gene Horning, and Chris and wife, Salle Horning, Masury, Ohio; and nine grandchildren, Cory, Shannon, Samantha, Bryan, Brad, Joshua, Noah, Nathan and Ricki; eight great-grandchildren, Creed, Kassidy, Coby, Cale, Jordan, Austin, Kadin and Alivia, whom he loved dearly. Also survived by five sisters, Phyllis Brant, Francis and husband, Dale Brant, Georgine Gardner, Annette and husband, George Rawlings, Joan Coleman and one brother, Ronald and wife, Janell Horning. Gene was a World War II occupation veteran, he served from 1946-1949 in occupied Japan and then Korea. He served as military honor guard throughout the Shenango Valley with Wheatland American Legion Post 432, West Middlesex VFW Post 6233 and later Sharon American Legion Post 299. He was a lifelong trucker, active Teamster member/retiree. He drove for Cooper/Jarrett Trucking, Pitzer Bros. Trucking and Nick Strimbu Inc. After retirement, he worked as O.S.S. Security Guard and owner of PG's flea market in Wheatland. He enjoyed working as a Santa Claus at Kraynak's and Shenango Valley Mall, also at the Wheatland Legion Christmas party. Friends were received at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service was conducted with the Rev. Thomas Sprowls Jr. officiating. Interment, Highland Cemetery, Garrett.
