HOSMER Confluence and vicinity was much shocked and saddened when it was reported that Mrs. Ruth D. Hosmer, wife of Stephen Hosmer of Wilkinsburg, had died in the Montfiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness, on Saturday morning, January 18. Mrs. Hosmer had entered the hospital on Monday and underwent a major operation on Wednesday which was successful. Bronchial pneumonia and other complications developed causing her passing. Her mother, Mrs. William Bower, passed away nine months ago. Funeral services were held in the Wareham Funeral Home in Wilkinsburg on Monday night. The body was brought here on Tuesday and laid in state in the Lutheran church from 1 to 2 o'clock. After short funeral services, Rev. Shannon, pastor, officiating, interment was made in the Baptist Cemetery in charge of Charles Humbert, undertaker. Mrs. Hosmer is survived by her husband and two sons, Roger and William; her father, William Bower of Friendsville; three sisters, Miss Beatrice Bower and Mrs. Dorothy Friend of Confluence; and Mrs. Mary Pronesti of Boswell; five brothers, Lloyd, Walter, Clyde and James of Confluence, and Roy, of Wilkinsburg. She was in her 47th year. She was a lovely Christian woman, a devoted wife and mother, an ideal sister. A host of friends had been looking forward to the day when her husband would retire and she could make her home in Confluence, where she loved to live. Before her marriage she made her home with an aunt in Somerset. On the maternal side she was a descendent of the Peter Stutzman family, well-known in the early educational history of Somerset County,. Mrs. Hosmer was the daughter of William Bower of Friendsville, Md., and the late Margaret (Stutzman) Bower. Meyersdale Republican, January 23, 1941
