Hostetler, 88, Central City, died Oct. 28, 1983, at the Presbyterian Home, Johnstown. He was born May 15, 1895, in Middlecreek, Somerset County, the son of the late Rola G. and Mary Hostetler. Survived by wife, the former Estelle C. Cupp. Received a B.S. degree from California University, Pennsylvania; advanced study at Ohio State University, Elizabethtown College and Grove City College. Taught for 44 years in Somerset County schools, eight years in Shade High School, and was supervising principal for Central City Borough schools. Was later elementary supervisor of Shade Central-City School District, the position he retained until he retired in1960. Life member PSEA, NEA, Somerset County Historical and Genealogical Society. Recipient of coveted Silver Beaver Award. Active in scouting as scoutmaster of Central City Troop 1. Served on executive board of Robert E. Perry Boy Scout Council. First volunteer scout to teach at the Filmont Scout Reservation, Cimmaron, and N.M. Active member of Shade Lions Club where he served as president and later became District Governor of Lions 14L where he received the award of International Counselor. Friends will be received after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Malcahy Funeral Home, Central City, where service will be held 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Ralph Mills officiating. Interment, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rockwood. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Beacon Lodge in memory of Mr. Hostetler. Daily American, October 29, 1983 [H1651]
