HOSTETLER Claude Jacob Hostetler, veteran of World War II, died in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1946. He was born in Elk Lick Township May 6, 1913, the son of Maurice and the late Zourie (Faidley) Hostetler. When he was a small child, his parents moved to the Cyrus Hostetler farm near Meyersdale, where he grew to manhood. In 1926 he became a member of the Main Street Brethren Church. As a high school student, he was greatly interested in sports, and was a member of the high school football team. He graduated from Meyersdale High School in 1933. He spent two years of his life in the service of his country. He was inducted into the Army March 16, 1944, and was sent into action in September of the same year. While fighting with General Patton's Third Army, he was wounded in action, in Luxembourg, in December of 1944. He received his honorable discharge from the Army on March 15, 1946. After his return to civilian life, he resumed his position with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Co., as a yard patrolman. He was a member of the Railroad Brotherhood. On Nov. 11 he became quite ill while at work in Connellsville. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Audrey (Sutton) Hostetler, and one son, Thomas Wayne; his father, Maurice Hostetler, of Meyersdale; one brother, Ward Hostetler of Friedens R.D., and one sister, Maxine Hostetler of Somerset. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Brethren, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Loren Bowman. Interment was made in the family lot in the Union Cemetery under the direction of H. R. Konhaus. Meyersdale Republican, December 6, 1946
