Mr. Hostetler was seemingly in good health when last seen by friends, Thursday evening. Neighbors becoming concerned, Saturday, when they realized they had not seen him around the house for more than a day, entered and found his body lying in the up-stairs hallway. Coroner P. C. Dosch made an investigation and estimated that he was stricken about 30 hours before discovery of his death was made. Mr. Hostetler, who was a salesman for the Diamond Match Company, had suffered a long illness due to a heart ailment in 1938, but since then he had good health and led an active life. He held membership in the Meyersdale Masonic Lodge and Charles E. Kelly Post, American Legion, and was recently elected Commander of the Post and was to have been inducted into that office on Monday evening of this week. He was a veteran of World War I. Harry Hostetler was born July 24, 1895, the son of the late John C. and Ellen (Miller) Hostetler, and was aged 50 years, 2 months and 12 days at his death. He married Hilda Lichty, daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Lichty in 1928. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Roy Beal, Detroit, Mich., and Margaret Hostetler, Meyersdale, and one brother, Paul Hostetler, Pittsburgh. His brother, James B., died last June also a victim of heart ailment. Three other brothers - Frank of Chicago, Samuel and Eugene of Meyersdale, also preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Hostetler home by Rev. Nelson C. Brown, pastor of Amity Evangelical and Reformed Church. Interment was made in Union Cemetery where military honors were accorded him by the local American Legion, Tom A. McKenzie, the post chaplain, conducting the service. Nat Lacavera, serving as bugler, and several World War II soldiers formed the firing squad. Pall bearers were James B. Slicer, Ernest Nightengale, Frank Thomas, John I. Meyers, Harry Finegan and Lawrence Hartle. At her husband's insistance, Mrs. Hostetler accompanied Mrs. Frank Price and Mrs. Ware Deeter to Kentucky, on Sunday, Sept. 30, to spend a week visiting her sister, Mrs. Leland Becker, and family. She was advised by telegraph, Saturday afternoon, of her husband's death, and started immediately for home by automobile, accompanied by her brother-in-law and sister, Capt. and Mrs. Leland Becker, and their daughter, Lt. Margaret Becker. Leaving Wheelwright, Ky., at 2 p.m., Saturday, and arriving here at 3 o'clock, Sunday morning. Meyersdale Republican, October 11, 1945
