Housel died at her home at 305 Sherman Street, Meyersdale, at noon on Wednesday, January 7, of bronchial pneumonia. Miss Housel had had a cold since Christmas, but had been able to work and to be about her home and apparently was no worse on the evening of January 6th, when relatives and friends saw her and talked to her. But about 5:30 on the morning of her death, her sister-in-law, Mrs. Cyrus Housel, noticed a prearranged distress signal in her window, and woke her husband, who went across the street at once but was unable to get into the house without breaking a window. He found his sister in serious condition, and sent at once for a doctor, but she was apparently beyond help and at noon she passed away. Miss Housel worked for many years for the Meyersdale Manufacturing Company as a seamstress. She was always of a friendly and cheerful disposition, and her sunny presence will be missed by her relatives and her host of friends. She was born in Meyersdale on August 13, 1884, daughter of Sarah Matilda (Weimer) and Arthur Queens Housel, and was 63 years, 4 months and 25 days in age at her passing. She is survived by three sisters; Mrs. Fannie Barnhart and Mrs. Annie McKenzie, both of Meyersdale, and Mrs. Teresa Klink of Garrett; and by three brothers; Harry, William and Cyrus Housel, all of Meyersdale. She was a lifelong member of the Reformed Church of Meyersdale, and of the Meyersdale Garden Club. Funeral services were conducted at her home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10th, with her pastor, the Rev. Nelson C. Brown, officiating. The pallbearers were Ellis Sturtz, Eugene McKenzie, Frank Berg, Bert Werner, Stirl McLaughlin and Emmert Fike. Interment in the Meyersdale Union Cemetery in charge of Stanley M. Thomas, Salisbury mortician. Meyersdale Republican, January 15, 1948
