Hugg, 86, East Patriot, Somerset, died Feb. 26, 1981, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born March 11, 1894, in Milesburg, Pa., he was a son of Harris and Nancy (Watson) Hugg. Preceded in death by parents, wife, Elizabeth (Moore) Hugg, and one sister, Maude Saxton. He is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Spangler, Somerset; two grandsons, John A. Spangler, Somerset, and Barry J., Cape St. Claire, Md.; five great-grandchildren, and one brother, Alfred Hugg, Johnstown. He was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Somerset, veteran of World War I, member of VFW post 554, Somerset, and John Ashley Dennis Post American Legion, Philipsburg. He was also a member of Lodge Moshannon 391 F. and A.M.; Lodge Counsel Chapter Consistory Valley of Pittsburgh Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Jaffa Temple, Altoona; past Exulted Ruler of Elks Lodge No. 1173, Philipsburg; former Mayor of Philipsburg, former chief deputy sheriff of Centre County. A graduate of Philipsburg High School class of 1913 and its class president. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the Walter E. Beezer Funeral Home, Philipsburg, where funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Carl C. Gray officiating. Interment, Philipsburg Cemetery. The Elks Lodge No. 1173 will conduct memorial services Saturday evening in the funeral home. Daily American, February 27, 1981 [H1885]
