Hummel, 75, of Woodside Drive, Milton, died Aug. 11, 2002. He was born in Goodtown, Pa., March 5, 1927 the son of George and Ann (Mohilchock) Hummel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy P. Hummel who died April 3, 1987, a sister Roseanne Ludy and a brother George Hummel. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law John C. and Connie Hummel of Garrett, three daughters and one son-in-law Sally Jo Wilver, Doreen H. and Steve Artley of White Deer, and Peggy S. Hummel-Minnich of Reading, grandchildren Greg Hummel, Jennifer Hummel Pugh, John Michael Hummel, Jeremy R. and Corey A. Wilver, Marly and Mark Artley, Logan Minnich, and Alyssa Hummel; and one great-grandson Tristan Michael Pugh. Also surviving are four sisters, Nancy Walker of Harleysville, Jean Stoddard, Joyce Scheller, and Linda Fetteroff, all of Somerset and his companion Eleanor Brouse. He graduated from Berlin Brothersvalley High School in 1945. John was a truck driver for most of his life having worked for Cooper Jarrett, Ward Trucking, Branch Trucking, and Poeth Trucking and was a member of Teamster Local 746. In his early working career he was a coal miner for Pine Hill Smokeless Coal Co. He was a member of St. John Church of Christ, Milton, Charity Masonic Lodge 144, Lewisburg, and Milton Moose Lodge 171. John enjoyed music and his own band for 18 years called "Happy Times"; he was an avid Milton sports fan and enjoyed gardening. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Deaner Funeral Home, 705 East Main Street, Berlin, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Garrett. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to either St. John United Church of Christ, 18 Arch Street, Milton, Pa. 17847 or Evangelical Home Health Care Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, Pa. 17837.
