"Gene" Hunter Sr., 82, of Boswell, died Feb. 2, 1997, at Siemon Lakeview Manor Estate. Born Jan. 16, 1915, in Frostburg, Md., son of Frank D. and Matilda (Shockey) Hunter. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Wilma M. (Spangler), Oct. 11, 1968, and brothers, Jack and Ralph. Survived by son, Dr. Franklin E. "Tucker" Hunter Jr., married to Heather C. Baldwin, West Grove; daughter, Peggy, wife of Mark Sildve, Lansdale, and two grandchildren, Tyler Franklin and Ashton Maia Sildve. A brother of Mary E. Horner, Davidsville; Betty E. Walker, Boswell; William L., married to Betty Alumbaugh, Somerset, and Lee, married to Lurane Rhodes, Minneapolis, Minn. Lifelong member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boswell. Member of Boswell Post 461, American Legion, and Somerset Lodge 438, I.O.O.F. Charter member and past president of the Boswell Lions Club and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship award for distinguished service to the community. School board director for former Boswell School District. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Graduate of former Boswell High School, Class of 1933. Owned and operated former Hunter's Super Market, Boswell, for 43 years. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. John K. Timm officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Lions will pay final respects at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside military rite by Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team.
