"Chance," Ickes, 81, Somerset Pike, Jennerstown went to be with his Lord and Savior whom he loved and served for 60 years on Feb. 4, 2005, at the Somerset Hospital. Born July 5, 1923, in Boswell, son of Comfrey S. Sr. and Leora M. (Trostle) Ickes. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Mary Katherine "Kay" Place. Survived by wife of 58 years, former Ruby Jean Horner; children, Cathy, married to Claude Snoeberger, Boswell; Susan, married to Larry Jack, Jennerstown; Laurel, married to Richard Tinsmith, Jerome; Randy, married to Hope Yates, Gray; Bruce, Baltimore, Md.; Stephen, married to Carol Phillips, Williamsburg, Va.; and Leslie, Davidsville; grandchildren, Chad, Cory, Lucas, Logan, Alexa and Alivia; and great-grandchildren, Katie, Hunter and Cameron. Brother of Wayne W., married to Leona M. Leasock, Boswell; Rose E. Furman, Deland, Fla.; and Comfrey S. Jr. "Squire," married to Phyllis McTonic, Boswell. A 1940 graduate of the former Boswell High School, where he played basketball. Navy veteran of World War II having served in the North African Theater. Former area school bus driver. A 1951 graduate of Bob Jones University and a 1990 recipient of an honorary doctorate degree from the university. Founded the Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle in 1949. Also founded the "Tabernacle Hour" radio broadcast in 1950. Participated in the Somerset County Church Softball league through last summer. Avid hunter, having bagged his last buck this past season. Member of the Boswell Historical Society. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" II Timothy 4:7. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle, Somerset Pike, Jennerstown, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Gary Anderson, the Rev. Robert Cessna and the Rev. Robert Farley officiating. Interment, Jenner Township Baptist Cemetery with graveside military rite in charge of Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team. Flowers will be accepted, but the family prefers memorials be sent to the Tabernacle Missionary Fund, 164 Edna Circle, Hollsopple, PA 15935. Arrangements in charge of the Hoffman Funeral Homes. Florists please deliver flowers directly to the Tabernacle before noon Monday.
