Ord St., Salisbury, died Wednesday, Sept 18, 1996, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md. Born July 1, 1926, at Meyersdale, he was a son of the late Luke and Jean (Fairer) James. He was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, Don, Tom, Frank and Joe and 1 grandson, Jeff Shoemaker. Mr. James was a member of Salisbury Church of the Brethren. He was past president of the Salisbury Lions Club, member of Meyersdale Lodge 548, F.& A.M., Harrisburg Consistory and Ali Ghana Shrine Temple, A U.S. Army veteran of WW 2, he served with the 8th Armored Division. He also was a member of the Salisbury American Legion and V.F. W. He was an insurance agent with New York Life Insurance Co., retiring after 30 years of service. Survivors include his wife, the former Ruth Harris, 3 daughters, Barbara Tice, Larvae, Md.; Rebecca Shoemaker, Springs; Patricia Mast, North Jackson, Ohio; 4 granddaughters, and 6 great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., Salisbury on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Salisbury Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Daniel Whitmore officiating. Interment, Salisbury Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by members of the American Legion and VFW.
