Johns Sr., 78, Confluence, died Jan. 15, 2001 at Somerset Hospital. Born Jan. 1, 1923 in Taft, Mich., a son of the late James R. Johns and Bess (Barnes) Johns Previere. In addition to his parents, preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Johns, whom he married Oct. 31, 1942 in Frostburg, Md., and who died June 20, 1999. Survived by a daughter, Joyce Tressler and her husband, Ron, and a son, James R. Johns Jr., and his wife, Linda, all of Confluence; 6 granchildren: Bill Holliday, Christian Holliday, Melissa Mathias, Shelley Johns, Dessiree Walker and Ronnie Tressler; and 3 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Preston and Frankie. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a corporal in the Pacific Theater of operations. Member of Confluence VFW Post 7250, Ursina American Legion Post 946, and the Confluence United Methodist Church. A former member and past president of Turkeyfoot Valey Area School Distric Board of Directors and retired from Riverside Ford Sales in Confluence after more than 40 years employment. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence, where service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. John Snyder officiating.
