Johns, 85, East Campus Avenue, Davidsville, died Nov. 3, 1999, at home. Born April 21, 1914, in Benscreek, son of Joseph W. and Annie (Miller) Johns. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Lewis, and sister, Emma Johns Bettle. Survived by sister, Mary L. Johns, Davidsville; niece, Margaret (Bettle), wife of Jeffrey Chynoweth and their son, Jason Johns Chynoweth; close friends, Bill and Jeanette Hunsberger and family; Shirley Stevens; and Millie Zeunges. Member of Tire Hill Church of the Brethren. Attended Kaufman Mennonite Church. Also was a member of Pennsylvania Association of Conservation District. Was a director of Somerset County Conservation District board, where he was a founding member. Member of Farm Bureau, where he served as Somerset County president and on the state board of directors. Was a director of the Somerset Holstein Club and state director of Holstein Association. Somerset County DIHA director. Also a member of Somerset County Extension, where he served as past director. Receieved the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award in 1988 from the PFA. Was member of the Somerset County Republican Party; Conemaugh Township Rotary Club. Lifetime member of Somerset County Historical Association. Was a sixth-generation descendant of Joseph Johns, the founder of Johnstown. Family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at George E. Mason Funeral Home Inc., Davidsville. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Daufman Mennonite Church, the Rev. Donald Sharp. Interment, Joseph Johns Cemetery.
