Born Sept. 17, 1945, in Somerset County, she was the daughter of the late James Russell and Cordilla E. (Shockey) Tipton. She graduated from Somerset Area Senior High School in 1963. She was a 1974 graduate of the Allegany Community College in Cumberland, Md., where she received her BA in nursing. She and her husband Gary Lee Johns were married May 12, 1982. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, John Philip Stoner Jr., Hagerstown, Md.; Theodore Russell "Rusty" Stoner, Clearspring, Md.; and Mark Alan Stoner, Roanoke, Va.; three grandchildren; a half-sister, Grace Thiel, Somerset; three sisters Edith M. Morgan, Somerset, Emma L. Stanfield, Atwater, Ohio, and Barbara A. Tipton, LeCanto, Fla.; two brothers, Jacob H. Tipton, Saramore Hills, Ohio, and Harold E. Tipton, Ravenna, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma I. Ritenour, and a brother, Charles Russell Tipton. Services will be held today, Saturday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, Greencastle. Daily American, December 14, 1996 [J0123]
