Johnson was burned on the head, chest, shoulders and arms Sunday afternoon when a can of powder ignited outside the Sheeler Coal Company operations, four miles east of Stoyestown, where he had been employed the past two years. Johnson was unloading powder from a truck when a can of the explosive slipped from his grasp, exploding when it fell through the truck and landed on the battery of the machine. In an instant his clothing was in flames. His father- in-law, Perry Sheeler, and brother-in-law, Ernest Sheeler, who were working nearby, tore the burning clothes from his body. Dr. A. M. Uphouse, of Stoyestown, and Dr. Frank Lee, of Central City, administered first aid treatment before he was taken to the hospital. Robert Johnson was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Johnson, of Somerset. He is survived by his parents, his wife, Mrs. Grace (Sheeler) Johnson; one daughter, Kathleen, aged three, and two sisters, Misses Mary Louise and Dorothy Johnson, of Somerset.
