Johnson, 83, 646 Tayman Ave., Somerset, died June 23, 1989, at his residence. Born April 11, 1906, in Connellsville, son of the late George and Lillian (Whipkey) Johnson. Preceded in death by his first wife, the former Martha Garletts; a sister, Irene Henry; and a brother, Donald. Survived by his second wife, former Anna (Garletts) Hall; stepson, Melvin Hall, Manassas, Va.; stepdaughter, Carolyn Philo, Dallas Texas; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters: Jessie, wife of Willis Show, Johnstown; Dwella, wife of Harold Rager, Johnstown; and Hazel, wife of Harry Hunter, Fairchance, Pa. Taught school in Somerset County schools for 36 1/2 years, and for 10 years in the Maryland school system. Member of Sunnehanna Lodge 742 F&AM, Johnstown; Pittsburgh Consistory, 32nd degree; Jaffa Temple, Altoona; and Somerset County Shrine Club. Member of York Rite Cambria Council 32 R&SM, Johnstown; Portage Royal Arch Chapter 195; Oriental Commandery 61 Knights Templar; the Conemaugh Gap York Rite College 34; and the National Retired Teachers Association. Life member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and the Somerset County Retired Teachers Association. Member of Pennsylvania State Education Association; Laurel Highlands Chapter 12, American Association of Retired Persons; and Trinity Lutheran Fellowship, member and former teacher of Trinity Sunday School chapel class. Friends received 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Wilbur D. Miller Fuenral Home. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Rev. H. James Meyers officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Viewing at the church one hour before the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be given to the Pastor George Bowersox Playground Memorial Fund.
